Changes at MPAC

In March of 2006, FOCA, as members of WRAFT (Waterfront Ratepayers After Fair Taxation) welcomed the 22 recommendations for reforming Ontario's property assessment system made by Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin.  "The Ombudsman's recommendations, aimed at the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, (MPAC), will make the whole assessment process more fair and comprehensible to the property owner," said WRAFT spokesperson Bob Topp.

Further improvements recommended in late 2010 by the Auditor General of Ontario were intended to address a number of other systemic shortcomings.

While agreeing with the many MPAC reforms suggested by the Ombudsman and the Auditor General, untouched are the fundamental issues of equity and stability in the current residential property tax system.  FOCA remains committed to making changes to stabilize property taxes from Ontario property owners.

One of the changes about property disclosure brought about from the recommendations by Ontario's Ombudsman included more transparent discosure about your property.  You can now access information about your property online from your home computer (best by Windows XP or Windows Vista using Internet Explorer 6 or Internet Explorer 7).

To use "AboutMyProperty" (a free service) you will need your municipal roll number.
