Kawarthas
The region of the Kawarthas is often characterized by its link to the Trent Severn Waterway, a system of locks and dams that connect Georgian Bay to Lake Ontario and runs through many of the water bodies in the area. It is an area known for its diversity of fish and wetland species as well as being the location of Rice Lake, one of the most productive freshwater lakes in Canada. Local, municipal government is an important point of contact for many rural, waterfront issues. Municipal Contacts for The Kawarthas
NEW! Clean Wake Program
The Clean Wake Program, an initiative of the Summerhill Group, is a great opportunity to encourage boaters to repower their boats with cleaner technology.
Bring your old conventional 2-stroke outboard motor to Paris Marine on September 25 or October 2 from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm and it will be recycled responsibly.
The first 50 people to bring in their engine will receive a $100 gift certificate towards purchases at the marina to which they bring their engine.

July 25th, 2 - 3pm- Alien Invaders Workshop
The Lakeland Alliance and Peterborough Ecology Park are hosting a workshop on invasive plant species, presented by Alliance Shoreline Advisor Sue Prentice. This free workshop is taking place at Ecology Park in Peterborough on July 25th from 2 - 3pm. Representatives from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters Invading Species Program will also be on hand. FOCA has organized 4 Cottage Succession workshops this summer with Peter Lillico, Estate Planning Lawyer, author and Cottage Life writer, speaking about "Keeping the 'Family' in your Family Cottage". Cottage Dreams is a Cancer Recovery Initiative for survivors to recouperate after treatment with their friends and family for a week at a donated cottage. Cottages have been donated in your area and volunteers are needed to visit these sites ahead of time.
